APMA President Flavio Volpe criticized the deal from an automotive industry perspective, saying he is not satisfied with its current structure and wants Chinese automakers to manufacture in Canada. While he supports allowing a modest import quota as a temporary measure, Volpe stressed that “we should sunset the quota” once local production is established. He underscored the need to preserve advanced manufacturing capabilities in transportation, pointing to national security risks exposed during the pandemic and in an increasingly unstable global landscape.
