APMA routinely receives communications from OEM and all tier level companies that are sourcing potential suppliers.  As a member benefit, APMA will be regularly posting these opportunities for members to express their interest.

Navistar Supplier Opportunity

Navistar has various supplier opportunities available.  In the short term, Navistar Defence is looking to identify Canadian suppliers for a variety of products and services in conjunction with their bid for the Standard Military Pattern (SMP) Vehicle contract with Canada's Department of National Defence.

Tavola Canada - Mission to Turin, Italy in February 2012

The Automotive Parts Manufacturers' Association (APMA) and the Canadian Embassy in Rome invite you to participate in Tavolo Canada, an Automotive, Connected Vehicle and Innovation partnering mission to Torino, Italy from February 7-9, 2012The program will enable Canadian companies and research institutions to meet with key Italian automotive and connected vehicle companies, such as Magneti Marelli and purchasing representatives from FIAT, and leading Italian universities and research centres engaged in automotive and connected vehicle innovation, such as the National Research Council (CNR), the Turin Polytechnic and FIAT's research centre, Centro Ricerche FIAT (CRF).   

The automotive industry is the most important driver of the Italian economy. With a turnover in excess of 75 billion Euro, the industry accounts for a labour force of some 200,000 people, 885 parts manufacturers, and an additional 5,000 SME suppliers and service providers. The FIAT Group is the largest industrial enterprise in Italy and one of the founders of the European motor industry. FIAT has emerged from the recent crisis as a leader of tshe future global automotive industry and together with Chrysler is the world's 6th largest vehicle manufacturer. By 2014, the FIAT-Chrysler alliance forecasts a combined turnover of 100 billion Euro and an annual production in excess of 6 million units. FIAT Group Purchasing manages a global supply chain of more than 10,000 companies with a purchasing volume of more than 35 billion Euro and is undertaking a full review of its supply chain vis-à-vis its future North America production. As FIAT fully integrates its global supply base with that of Chrysler's, Italian suppliers will be keen to partner with firms in North America to establish a manufacturing footprint close to FIAT-Chrysler's plants

Italy also offers a growing market and is home to a significant number of highly innovative players that are active at all levels of the value chain in the Connected Vehicle sector. Led by Magneti Marelli, FIAT's components group, and on the research side by FIAT's research centre (CRF) and universities such as the Turin and Milan Polytechnics and the University of Trento, Italy is an important global players in this sector engaging in research collaboration with counterparts worldwide. The Italian Ministry of Transport estimates that the Italian Intelligent Transport System (ITS) market, which includes the Connected Vehicle sector, will grow to over 1 billion Euro in 2012.

Hyundai-Kia Motor Company's 2012 New Technology Exhibition

 The Namyang R&D Center (located in Korea) of Hyundai-Kia Motor Company has agree to open up their facility to allow Canadian suppliers to participate in a New Tech Autoparts Exhibition/Seminar. This represents an excellent opportunity for suppliers to introduce their latest innovative technologies to the Hyundai-Kia R&D community.

   

The event will take place on the 1st floor of the Design Engineering Building #1 at the Namyang R&D Centre.  Total exhibition space is 22m X 22m.  The Namyang R&D Centre is located at:

Final decisions on successful applicants will be made by Hyundai after a comprehensive review of all applications.  Exhibit dates will be between February and November 2012, where one or up to 3-4 companies will exhibit on a given day.  Applicants can specify a particular date on which they would like to exhibit.

General Motors of Canada "Discovery Day"

APMA, through its "Connected Vehicle Working Group" is collaborating with General Motors of Canada to coordinate a Discovery Day for potential electrical Hardware and Software suppliers at its Canadian Engineering Centre in Oshawa, Ontario on November 17, 2011.  Canadian companies interested in being considered for this opportunity are asked to provide their basic company contact, profile and technology information details.  Specifically, General Motors will be most interested in learning more about the  technology you offer and how your company can contribute to the automotive sector.  Companies do not have to be current automotive suppliers to participate, however, they will need to be in a position to offer at a minimum, one or more of the following;

  • hardware components that can be used by the auto industry-new device or proof of concept that can be used for automotive applications
  • software adapted for automotive needs
  • integration of devices/software for automotive needs
  • tools hardware/software to perform any of the above

Supplier Day with Bosch Mexico

The Embassy of Canada in Mexico with the support of Robert Bosch Mexico would like to invite Canadian companies to participate in a business opportunity.

 

Robert Bosch Mexico expects to find qualified Canadian suppliers.  The Mexican market requires suppliers of high precision tuned parts, machined components, and secondary processes like heat treatments and surface finishing.  Bosch has a market of $120 million USD for companies willing to expand operations in Mexico with a greenfield project, a joint venture, or a partnership.

 

Note that Bosch's global purchasing strategy requires a local presence; therefore, on top of meeting with Bosch's purchasing team, a selected group of Mexican companies interested in partnerships or joint ventures will be available to meet with participating Canadian companies.

 

Robert Bosch Mexico leads the "Consejo Nacional de Empresas Tractoras", a multinational alliance of top Tier-1 companies located in Mexico. Canadian Technology Day, Germany - November 3 or 4, 2011

The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), through its Embassy and Consulate Offices in Germany are working with APMA to produce a series of Canadian Supplier Technology Days in Germany.  In addition to the Adam Opel date of November 1, we are also working with another German OEM for a similar Canadian Technology Day on November 3 or 4, 2011

Canadian suppliers interested in this opportunity are invited to complete the Application Form and submit their best technologies and innovation details for consideration and evaluation.  The German OEM is seeking to learn more about what Canadian companies have to offer in Lightweight/Biomaterial and Advanced Driver Assistance Systems / Connected Vehicle

The subject areas of interest are broad and while not limited to these areas, may include the following: 

  • New light-weighting materials, multi-material systems and joining technologies that improve performance, weight and/or cost
  • Intelligent vehicle technologies, especially in areas of driver assistance and "Connected Car" competencies
  • Biomaterial advancements
  • Other opportunities to reduce mass on the vehicle
  • New processing approaches with optimized results for material and parts

Teknomotive 2011 in Brescia, Italy

As a follow up to the 2010 trade mission to Italy and as part of the continued collaboration betewen Chrysler and FIAT, the Italian Chamber of Commerce Ontario along with Alfin-Edimet would like to invite APMA members to attend the Teknomotive 2011 fair in Brescia, Italy from October 20-22, 2011.  This is the only exhibition in Italy with an international character dedicated to materials, technologies, components, and subcontracting. 

 

This event offers a great opportunity for Canadian parts suppliers who wish to meet European manufacturers and to maximize opportunity with Chrysler/FIAT.

 

The invitation is extended to Tier 1 suppliers of systems and finished components for the transport industry, planners and designers, manufacturers and assemblers of vehicles for the automotive, commercial and industrial transportation, rail, naval, aeronautic and special vehicles sectors.  If you meet these requirements and would like to attend the fair, please follow the link below to fill out an application.

General Motors Call for Interest - New Technology and Canadian Supplier Technology Events

The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT), through the Canadian Consulate in Detroit, is working with General Motors and APMA to produce a number of Canadian Supplier Technology Days at its Vehicle Engineering Center in Warren, Michigan in the near future.

GM's Engineering Centre in Oshawa and the Vehicle Engineering Center in Warren are engaged in developing new technologies and are seeking partners in various forms:  technology providers, collaborators and developers. 

CANADIAN SUPPLIERS INTERESTED in this opportunity are invited to complete the Application Form by CLICKING HERE and submit their best technologies and innovation details for consideration and evaluation.  These innovations may consist of new parts, systems, materials or process improvements.  Please note, technologies already supplied to GM on existing programs are not included in this Call for Interest, however, current suppliers are encouraged to consider applying if they have additional technologies to offer. 

The subject areas of interest are broad and while not limited to these areas, may include the following:

  • New materials, multi-material systems and joining technologies that improve performance, weight and/or cost

Canadian Innovation Day at Ford Motor Company

The Canadian Consulate General at Detroit, APMA, and Canadian industry partners are working with Ford Motor Company to produce a "Canadian Innovation Day" on April 11, 2011 at their Product Development Center in Dearborn, Michigan.

This is a chance for new and existing suppliers to present to Ford engineers, designers and purchasing staff, their advanced technologies and/or technical advantages in their products from a design, manufacturing and cost perspective.  Some of the technologies that would be of interest include, but are not limited to:
 

  • weight reduction
  • electrification  (powertrain electrification including motors, controllers, inverters)
  • customer surprise/delight features
  • electronic connectivity/communication including HMI
  • customer surprise/delight features
  • cost reduction
  • interiors -  creative, packaging
  • advanced materials

Nissan Mexicana Localization of Content and Supplier Day

Due to the currently strong yen, Nissan Mexicana (NMEX) has established a very comprehensive localization program. They have established a big showroom of all the parts they wish to localize at their manufacturing facility in Aguascalientes. The APMA has visited this facility and viewed these parts and has submitted a list of potential suppliers to NMEX. Nissan has in turn provided us with a comprehensive list of these parts. Member companies can contact Vince Guglielmo at APMA via email at vguglielmo@apma.ca or by telephone at 416-620-4220 Ext 233 to receive a copy of this listing.  We can also provide you with a list of specific contacts at NMEX who are responsible for this program.

To facilitate this opportunity, the APMA in conjunction with our Consulate team in Mexico has established a Tech Day in Mexico to allow Canadian suppliers to meet the NMEX team and demonstrate specific capabilities. More details to follow below.

 

Supplier Mission

As outlined above, APMA, The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) and Nissan Mexicana, S.A. de C.V. ("NMEX") are organizing a part suppliers' day on Thursday February 10th, 2011. This event will take place in the Nissan Technical Center located in Toluca, Estado de México, near to Mexico City.

NMEX is looking to increase the integration of North American suppliers that can support its growth and new product mandates, in particular those that already have a presence in Mexico.

In addition to parts belonging to various classification groups of the vehicle, NMEX is also interested in meeting with suppliers of specialized services such as electrostatic flocking and raw materials including aluminum sheet, rubber and stainless steel. NMEX will select participants according to its procurement needs.

Registration deadline is January 14, 2011.

DFAIT will offer to participants the possibility of organizing an additional matchmaking agenda on Wednesday February 9, to meet with other Mexican potential buyers or distributors.

FOHO Economic Development Zone Exploration

STL Holding Ltd. invites you to take part in an exclusive opportunity to explore one of the most advantageous economic development zones in China.  If you are interested in outsourcing your manufacturing to China, expanding your business into China, or seeking partnership in China, then this is a great opportunity for you.

KOTRA held their 2010 Korea Auto-Parts Plaza on Octover 27, 2010 in Toronto.  The purpose of the event was to align North American key automotive purchasing members with a group of industry leading Korean auto parts manufacturers who offer high quality and cost-saving opportunities.

Demand for Korean products has increased due to improved cost competitiveness from the favourable currently exchange rate and the growing reputation for Korean product quality.

Nissan Technical Center and "Canadian Innovation Day"

The Canadian Consulate in Detroit, APMA, and industry partners worked together to provide the "Canadian Innovation Day" at the Nissan Technical Center, North America (NTCNA) on September 22, 2010.  The event was an opportunity for Canadian suppliers seeking to gain exposure and access to Nissan and their supply chain.  Those who could offer a new product, process, material, or innovation, currently or in the near future, were encouraged to participate. 

NTCNA is the design, technology, and engineering center for North American models and is the first point of contact for potential supply opportunities.  They are looking for companies that offer advanced technologies and/or technical advantages in their products from a design, manufacturing, and/or cost perspective.

BMW Mexico

The Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade (DFAIT) Canada and BMW Group have organized a Trade Mission to Mexico City.  The Trade Mission is for Canadian tooling suppliers of plastic injection and metal stamping who are interested in meeting BMW and its Tier 1 suppliers in Mexico.  On November 17, 2010, BMW Supply Day will be hosted at the BMW Group's facilities in Toluca.  Following the event, DFAIT will organize one-on-one meetings for Canadian participants interested in meeting potential Mexican buyers, distributors, or representatives.  In addition to BMW, 24 T1 suppliers or stamping or plastic injection have been invited to participate and meet with potential Canadian T2/T3 suppliers.

ContiTech is the rubber and plastics technology division of Continental (www.contitech.de). Its main business products include Air Spring Systems, Coated Fabrics, Compensators / Connecting Pipes, Compounds / Elastic Sheeting, Conveyor Belt Systems, Diaphragms, Drive Belts, Hoses / Hose Lines, Interior Foils, Printing Blankets, Sealing Systems and Vibration Control. Its Mexico plant specializes in fluid technology and has the mandate to locate NAFTA suppliers for the production of rubber, plastics, textiles, steel and aluminium components, which will be used by ContiTech in the manufacture of hoses, curved hoses, hose lines and pipelines and the fittings for these.

Nissan Mexico

Nissan has contacted APMA with a list of technologies that are currently limited and under development, as well as technologies that are still unavailable or limited for Nissan Mexico.  If your company produces any of the noted technologies and is interested in supplying Nissan Mexico, please supply APMA with your contact information and information on the specific technology.  Nissan is willing to purchase in Canada but also is looking for Canadian suppliers who would consider longer term investment in Mexico.

This supply opportunity also has potential to expand to further divisions within Nissan America.  As all suppliers know, getting the "foot in the door" is the hardest step.

Hino Motors, Ltd.

APMA initialized discussion with Hino Motors Manufacturing regarding potential supply opportunities.  Hino Motors has supplied a list of commodities where they have established specific objectives for localization from the current supply from Japan.  Although initial volume may be smaller, this opportunity has great potential to expand into further supply opportunities.
