Trained Co-op Students Available for Energy Assessments

By Peter Corbyn - 4 months ago

The APMA is developing a number of options this summer towards the availability of co-op students to complete energy inventories and assessments for member companies.

To date, six APMA member facilities have collectively identified $300,000 worth of energy savings via the program supported by Natural Resources Canada.

A key component of this program is providing experience for engineering co-op students towards completing energy inventories and identifying savings opportunities at APMA member facilities. We will be training students in May and providing technical assistance for the students as they help members lower energy costs. There are three options for engaging students:

Option 1: Four Month Co-op Term

If you are hiring a co-op student for the summer work term and would like them be trained in identifying energy savings opportunities, let us know. Also, FYI, the Ontario government is offering a co-op education tax credit worth up to $3,000 for employees - click here for more information.

Option 2: Four to Six Week Placement

Would you like to hire a trained co-op student for four or six weeks this summer to complete a thorough energy assessment (will receive mentoring via the APMA)? The cost would be in the $5k to $6k range depending on the number of weeks they are engaged at your facility. The APMA will ensure that these co-op students are employed at other facilities during the summer.

Option 3: Four to Six Week Placement At Virtually No Cost

We are currently working with sponsors to provide the services of co-op students at no cost (OK, perhaps some expenses) - they will be trained and mentored with the goal of identifying and calculating energy savings opportunities for your facility.

Please contact Peter Corbyn at pcorbyn@apma.ca for more information. I hope you are able to join us at the March 31 Environment and Energy Conference at the Linamar Training Centre in Guelph.
